Tommy (Tuna) Beckett has been an active participant in lacrosse for decades in his role as Equipment Manager for teams including the Brampton Excelsiors (MSL), the New England Black Wolves (NLL), and the Green Gaels (OLA). In 2024 Tommy travelled with the Gaels to the Aleš Hřebeský Memorial tournament in Prague of the Czech Republic.

Tommy lost his battle with  brain cancer Saturday morning and the news of his passing has hit his lacrosse friends hard. Ziggy Musial, long time President and General Manager of the Major Series Brampton Excelsiors commented upon what a good equipment manager Tommy Beckett is. Musial noted, “Tommy was very good at his job. You could count on him to do his job well, always dependable, always reliable”.

Doug Luey spoke with gratefulness about knowing Tommy. He commented, "I had heard about Tommy Beckett’s reputation for years but did not know him. When he agreed to come on board with the Green Gaels a few years ago I came to know him well and was proud to be able to call him a friend. Tom’s passion for the game, but more importantly, for the players is unparalleled."

When speaking with Tom, you got the sense he was confident he  would overcome his battle with cancer. Over the course of his lacrosse career, he unselfishly gave so much to countless players. There are hundreds of people from various lacrosse communities across Canada and around the world that will miss his humour and heart of gold.
